RAKU (Japanes pottery) workshop
We will hand-build bowls, tea-lights or tea bowls, using a heavily grogged raku clay, by coiling & pinching. You will be taught the different methods by practical demonstrations & have-a-go yourselves sessions in the first day. The work will dry out & then be initially fired in a bisq kiln. The 2nd session (morning only) you will be able to paint your work with raku glazes & then we will all fire the work in the raku kiln. This involves a slow firing initially, one the pots are warm the gas will be turned up & fired to approx 950 degrees. The pots will be taken out of the raku bin at the high temperature & put in sawdust or water to cool down.
